AARP will be offering free tax assistance for Westerly area low income residents once again starting Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesdays and Fridays on a first-come first-served basis.
Please remember to bring your Social Security card, picture I.D. (such as license), your W-2’s, and 1090’s. If you plan to itemize deductions, please remember to bring proof of expenses such as health insurance and mortgage interest. If you plan to itemize medical expense, please have materials organized by doctor and hospital bills, medical insurance premiums, prescription medicines, assisted living services, long-term insurance, and bills for medical related home improvements such as ramps and railings for people with disabilities.
In order to process as quickly and efficiently as possible, the aides do not have time to deal with a mixed pile of bills and receipts. If you have a refund coming and want to direct deposit it, bring your checking or savings account information (such as a copy of a check).
The center is offering a trip to Cowboy Country through Collette in September. Detailed flyers are available at the center office, but a slide show presented by a Collette agent will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the back half of the cafeteria area.
This week will feature several special activities. On Monday, the book discussion group will meet at 1:30 p.m. in the shuffleboard room to discuss The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro. If weather is poor, the group will meet on the next Monday.
INSIGHT, which is a group for the visually impaired and legally blind. and their caretaker, will meet in the conference room at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, the Memory Café will meet in room 1 of the triple room at 10 a.m. This group is for those with memory loss.
A representative from SNAP will be at the center on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to assist with paperwork and answer questions about food stamps.
