ND Department of Human Services offers Heating Assistance Program - KFYR-TV

BISMARCK, N.D. - With colder weather coming, many will need to turn up the thermostat.

Heating your house can be expensive, but the North Dakota Department of Human Services has a program if you need help. More than 13,000 in the state could afford heat this winter because of the Low Income Home and Energy Assistance program.

Eligibility is based on annual income depending on the amount of people in the home.

The cutoff for two people in a residence is slightly more than $40,000 per year and about $49,000 for three people.

Economic Assistance Director Michele Gee said, "Just the important thing is, encouraging households that are having trouble meeting their home heating cost to go to their county Social Services office and apply for assistance."

The program is offered every year October through May. The Departments of Commerce partners with Human Services to take care of furnace cleanings, repairs and replacements. For more information on how to apply for Burleigh County click on the links attached to the right side of this story.
