Community organizes to offer assistance during virus shutdown - Bellefontaine Examiner

Student meals to be provided throughout school closures

Food service professionals from local schools have reported an “outpouring” of community support in recent days as districts continue to work together with civic organizations to provide food and childcare to families during the COVID-19 coronavirus shutdown.

“Thank you to everyone in our Benjamin Logan community including local businesses for your outpouring of support during this unprecedented situation,” Benjamin Logan food service director Jann McBrien posted Sunday to the district’s Facebook page.

Bellefontaine Elementary School Tammy Cooper related in a message Sunday she has been, “overwhelmed with offer of help to prepare food and I want to thank you.”

Logan County students in grades K-12 that rely on a daily meal at school will not be going without during the shutdown, as county school districts have each announced specific plans to make lunchtime meals available to school-aged children.

The United Way of Logan is also organizing child care locations for school-aged children in need of afternoon supervision.

Union Station, 613 Hamilton St., Bellefontaine, can host children from noon to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, pending a parent or guardian’s signature.

The Lookout at Indian Lake Community Church, 120 N. Orchard Island Road, Russells Point, can host kids from 1 to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday.
