Kendall-Grundy Community Action Services, a division of Kendall County Health Department, has funds available for the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).
The mission for energy assistance programs are to assist low income households in meeting their immediate home energy needs by paying a portion of winter energy bills to prevent service interruptions, while providing education on home energy conservation and other opportunities to achieve and maintain energy security and financial self-stability.
To qualify for this assistance on your gas and your electric bills, households must have an income equal to or less than 150% of the poverty level as defined in the 2020 poverty guidelines and provide required documentation during the scheduled appointment.
2020 poverty guidelines are the following gross incomes per family size:
1 member — $1,561
2 members — $ 2,114
3 members — $2,666
4 members — $3,219
5 members — $3,771
6 members — $4,324
Required documentation for an appointment includes Social Security numbers for every householdmember; proof of income for the last 30 days including the date of the application for anyone 18 years or older in thehousehold; and a current gas and electric bill issued within the last 30 days (if energy is paid for directly).
LIHEAP applications are taken based on a first-come, first-served basis until May 31, 2020 or until funding is exhausted.
