Superior School District's effort to increase mental health assistance passes statewide - KBJR 6

SUPERIOR, WI-- The Superior School District announced its resolution aimed at increasing the number of social workers, counselors, and mental health providers in schools has passed throughout the state.

According to the School District, the resolution was approved by the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) on Wednesday.

The resolution states:
"The WASB supports efforts to increase the supply of school social workers, school counselors and mental health providers throughout the state. The WASB will work with the DPI to address existing obstacles to school social worker licensing with an emphasis on obstacles faced by districts in regions of the state that are located remotely from universities conferring degrees
currently recognized by the DPI for licensure."

The School District said the resolution was drafted after experiencing licensing issues while trying to hire a social worker.

According to the School District, the current structure only allows school social worker licenses to be issued to graduates of the Master of Social Work program.

The District says this is the first resolution from Superior to be accepted and adopted at the Assembly.
