Twenty programs in Indianapolis will receive more than $6.3 million in homeless assistance grant funding from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development, Mayor Joe Hogsett’s office announced Thursday, a 13% increase in funding through HUD’s continuum of care program.

Indianapolis grant recipients include Coburn Place, Damien Center, Julian Center, Homeless Initiative Program, Adult and Child, CHIP, Englewood Community Development Corporation, Partners in Housing and Midtown Mental Health.

The money is part of nearly $23.8 million in homeless assistance grants distributed through the program to more than 80 grant recipient organizations in communities throughout Indiana. A complete list of grant recipients nationwide is available online. 

Nationally, the program disbursed more than $2.1 billion in the first round of 2019 funding. Indianapolis officials said they expect an additional $700,000 in homeless assistance grant funding in a second round later this year.

Hogsett said in a press release that the grant funding “will go a long way in supporting our efforts to ensure homelessness in Indianapolis is rare, short-lived, and recoverable.” He noted the city received bonus funding for a project that will focus on assistance for homeless victims of domestic violence.
