Michigan Tech group looking for community help - keweenawreport.com

jemputjembut.blogspot.com

Keweenaw Youth for Climate Action members are looking for local homeowners to shelter young fruit trees until they can be planted after the ground thaws. It is not uncommon for gardeners to begin projects indoors due to the short growing season, but this will go beyond that. Member Cameron Whiteside is looking for folks who will help with planting, watering, care, and maintenance of the trees.

If you are interested, there are plenty of options available through the program, including apple, pear, plum, peach, and cherry trees. Organizations and families are also welcome to apply. The KYCA has a form available which runs through the time and material requirements. If things go well, you could be enjoying the aesthetic benefits of your new planting in as little as two years, with a tasty snack or two as a bonus.

The trees will be provided at no cost to program participants. They are hoping for 15 plantings throughout Houghton and Hancock.
