A Colorado poet laureate, performer and award-winning writer is partnering with the Longmont Public Library to host a virtual program that will celebrate National Poetry Month in April.
Poet Laureate Bobby LeFebre will take part in the virtual program from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 22, according to a Longmont library news release. The program is free to the public, but registration is required. Registration opens at 10 a.m. Thursday and there is a limit of 195 participants.
The release said that the program will kick off with a virtual open house, followed by an introductory guest reader, then a reading performance by LeFebre, and concluding with a question and answer period. This year’s National Poetry Month is particularly special, because it marks the 25th anniversary of the designation, the release said.
Gov. Jared Polis named LeFebre Colorado’s 8th Poet Laureate in 2019, making him the youngest and first ever person of color to be appointed to the prestigious position in the program’s 100 year history, the release said.
Among many distinctions, LeFebre is known for writing the award-winning play, “Northside,” which LeFebre describes as “an unapologetic celebration of cultural preservation and permanence and a eulogy to things lost,” the release said.
Library officials said that the program is intended for adults and older teens. People can register for the event by visiting the library’s programs and events page at: bit.ly/3vC2IzB .
Once registered, participants will receive an email confirmation with information on how to join the Webex meeting.
