Update on delayed $300 lost wages assistance payment in Virginia - wtvr.com

RICHMOND, Va. -- Out-of-work Virginians who expected an extra $300 in lost wages assistance added to their bank account on Thursday, October 15 may have to wait a little longer.

Joyce Fogg, the spokesperson for the Virginia Employment Commission, confirmed to CBS 6 reporter Cameron Thompson that the funds will be released today and should appear in accounts starting today and continuing over the next few days.

She said the speed at which the money arrives depends on where the money is sent.

For example, a direct deposit is faster than someone who gets the money on a debit card.

She added the money would have gone out earlier, but the federal holiday combined with issues that stemmed from the cut fiber line that handled much of the state's computer network further delayed the process.

Seventy-two-thousand Virginians have applied for lost wages assistance.

A previous delay in lost wages assistance payments was blamed on a computer programming error.

To be eligible for the money, you must receive at least $100 in benefits from the state and certify that it is due to COVID-19.
