JACKSON, MI — Jackson College will offer $2,000 to students to help pay for fall semester classes.
The college received nearly $3.9 million through the federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund of the Coronavirus Aid, Recovery, and Economic Security Act, with half allocated for student assistance and half allocated for institutional support.
However, college officials have since decided that all funding will go toward assisting students. The $2,000 grants are only available for the fall semester, college officials said in a news release.
CARES Act allows Jackson College to provide financial relief to students
“We want to put our students in the best position to be successful,” Jeremy Frew, vice president of instruction and student services, said in the release. “After looking at the data and the needs of our students, we came up with this plan to help them as much as possible during this time.”
To be eligible, students must be enrolled at Jackson College for the fall and have filed their Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students may only apply one time.
“This will be in addition to other aid our students may receive – any Pell grants, scholarships or other aid,” Frew said. “This is a big bump. We hope this will help students continue to pursue their goals despite these challenging times.”
Students can apply for the fall emergency assistance grants on the Jackson College website starting Monday, Aug. 10. Students can apply by going to www.jccmi.edu/cars-act/.
