OWBC is a community action agency that works to empower children, families and seniors to achieve and maintain independence through partnering with are organizations, according to its website.
The organization will help those in need through three programs, the website said. The first is an energy assistance program to help pay for energy costs for low-income residents. The second is the emergency assistance program for those who may have lost employment or have been negatively impacted by the pandemic by providing money for food, rental assistance, prescriptions, gas and more. The third is a self-sufficiency/case management program to provide assistance with education and job skills to increase wages from employment, it said.
“This pandemic is something which has taken us all by surprise. More and more families have lost income, are struggling to pay their bills and are now at risk of losing their place to live,” said Kori Ince, OWBC’s director of community services, in the release. “With funding from the recent CARES Act, we are able to help COVID[-19] affected households by providing basic financial needs, such as rental assistance and utility assistance.”
