The 2020 Corvette C8 is equipped with a laundry list of high-performance equipment, but it also offers a variety of driver assistance features to keep the vehicle and its passengers safe when driving, parking, and backing up.
Some of the 2020 Corvette driver assistance features use audible alerts to indicate obstacles around the vehicle. Owners can customize these using the settings menu accessible in the infotainment screen – just hit the Settings icon, then scroll through the Vehicle tab to do so.
The 2020 Corvette’s standard HD Rear Vision Camera will activate when shifting into reverse, displaying the area behind the vehicle on the infotainment screen. The view will include an overlay grid to help the driver navigate. The standard Rear Park Assist system can also help the driver back up, and will beep to indicate the vehicle is approaching an obstacle, with five beeps indicating an object is very close.
The available Curb View Camera system (standard on 2LT and 3LT) works similarly. This system is recommended for use at speeds under eight mph, and can help the driver maneuver the 2020 Corvette around obstacles out of view from the driver’s seat.
Further camera angles are selectable from the infotainment screen, including top-down, as well as left and right angles. Activate the front-facing cameras using the button located in front of the driving mode selector in the center console.
The Rear Cross Traffic Alert system included as standard on 2LT and 3LT trim levels will warn the driver if there is traffic approaching from either the left or the right when backing up.
The 2LT and 3LT trims also come standard with Side Blind Zone Alert, which will issue a warning on the lefthand or righthand sideview mirror if a vehicle is detected in the blind zone around the vehicle.
Further standard equipment on the higher trims includes the Rear Camera Mirror, which provides a wide angle view behind the vehicle. This is useful for seeing what’s behind the 2020 Corvette without any obstructions that may be present inside the cabin.
Turn this feature off and on using the switch located underneath the rearview mirror. An adjacent button allows the driver to adjust various camera settings like zoom and brightness.
As a reminder, the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 is powered by the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 LT2 engine, and based on the all-new Y2 mid-engine platform. Production takes place at the GM Bowling Green plant in Kentucky.
