LA MIRADA, Calif. - It was an Eagle versus Eagle matchup in water polo Wednesday afternoon over at Biola University. However, it was the Eagles from Concordia University Irvine that came out on top, 11-4.
Wednesday's game marked the second meeting in water polo between the two schools, which have both come this season. The first matchup between the two teams was a non-conference game where CUI also scored 11 goals, winning 11-7.
On this day, Jeff Runyan and freshman Jacob Stuart combined for six goals with the two Eagles scoring three apiece. Stuart's three goals on the day marked a career-high for him.
Senior Andrew Dimino won all four sprints and got the first point up on the board for the Eagles as he scored late in the first quarter. CUI never looked back after that. They would go on to score three straight goals, building a 4-0 lead late in the second quarter.
In the second half, senior Christian Bowley and junior Callin Chimilar both got into the scoring column helping the Eagles secure the 11-4 win over Biola. Goalie Hunter Osgood was credited with the victory and Tanner Powell also saw some playing time to help the cause.
Next up for CUI is a home match versus Santa Clara on Friday Oct. 29. That game is slated to start at 1:30 p.m. at Woollett Aquatics Center.
