Federal assistance with fuel bills is available for Wareham residents starting Nov. 1 for both new and returning applicants.
The Wareham Council on Aging’s Outreach Worker Diana Patten is available to help people apply for this program by appointment only between 8:30 and 11 a.m., Monday through Friday. Call 508-291-3100, ext. 3133, to make an appointment.
Those applying should bring pay stubs for the last 30 days for all household members who have earned income during that time. Applicants should also bring verification of any public assistance payments, Social Security benefits, pensions, disability benefits, or VA benefits, and Social Security cards for all household members.
Applicants should verify their heating provider by bringing a current bill. If heat is included their rent, applicants should bring a copy of their lease. Home owners need to bring a copy of their tax bill, homeowner’s insurance, and a copy of a current heating bill.
Previous applicants who need to recertify their eligibility were mailed a recertification application during the summer. Those with completed applications should mail that application, along with new documentation, to the South Shore Community Action Council at 71 Obery St., Plymouth, MA, 02360. Applicants are advised to make sure that their application number is written on the upper right corner of every document.
