Here is what you need to know to apply
FEMA is currently providing financial assistance for Covid-19-related funeral expenses that occurred after January 20, 2020 and have not been reimbursed by other financial sources.
Approximately a month ago, FEMA started accepting applications for this Funeral Assistance program. Those interested in applying should visit fema.gov/funeral-assistance/faq to learn more about the documentation required to submit an application.
To register for FEMA funeral assistance call 844-684-6333 or TTY at 800-462-7858 Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT.
Registration must include:
- name of the deceased
- the birth dates and social security numbers of both the deceased and the applicant
- an official death certificate indicating the death was related to Covid-19
- documentation such as a paid receipt or funeral home contract which shows: proof the applicant paid for the funeral expenses; the amount of the funeral expenses; and the date funeral expenses were incurred
Currently, there is no deadline to apply.
