CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - With more people facing financial hardship during the ongoing novel coronavirus pandemic, assistance for people to keep them warm during winter’s coldest months is available.
The Low Income Energy Assistance Program can be applied for by those who are at or below the federal poverty line, according to the Hawkeye Area Community Action Program. HACAP administers LIHEAP in Benton, Delaware, Dubuque, Jones, Iowa, Jackson, Johnson, Linn, and Washington Counties.
The program allows renters and homeowners to receive assistance for part of their winter heating costs. The amount of money provided depends on income, household size and type, and the heating fuel source.
