On Friday Congressman Peter DeFazio led members of the Oregon congressional delegation in urging the Federal Emergency Management Agency to support Oregon’s request for Public Assistance funding to repair infrastructure damaged by last month’s wildfires.
In a letter to FEMA Administrator Peter Gaynor, the lawmakers said the delegation is committed to working together to ensure the maximum Federal resources are available to assist Oregonians recovering from the disaster. Their letter said that providing additional assistance to conduct permanent repair work of public infrastructure damaged in the disaster is the next necessary step to a full recovery.
DeFazio’s release said the lawmakers wrote in support of Governor Kate Brown’s request for Public Assistance Categories C through G, which would fund repairs for roads and bridges, water control facilities, public buildings and equipment, utilities, and parks and recreation facilities.
The release said FEMA has previously approved Oregon’s request for Public Assistance Categories A and B, which funded temporary relief measures. Funding through the additional categories would go towards longer-term repairs for public infrastructure damaged by the wildfires.
