CORAL SPRINGS, FL – Coral Springs is offering rental and utilities assistance to residents hit hard by the Covid-19 crisis.
Up to $10,000 in assistance will be given on a “first-come, first-ready, and first-approved” basis to those who have suffered a loss of income, reduction in hours, or unemployment as a direct result of the pandemic, according to a city news release.
Officials didn’t say how much total money is available or potentially how many people could be served.
This is the second time in recent months that Coral Springs has offered rental assistance to residents hurting economically.
In August, the city made $502,500 in assistance available, but the application process closed within minutes of opening after reaching its limit of 100 applications. Read our story on the applications here.
The assistance is paying for rent and past due utilities from the beginning of April through the end of December. The money will be paid directly to residents’ landlords or utility companies.
The money -- part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act Funds -- is coming from Florida through Broward County
“City staff have put a tremendous amount of effort into developing plans to apply for and distribute CARES Act funding to assist our residents recover from the economic impacts of COVID-19,” City Manager Frank Babinec said in the news release. “The timeline to complete distribution of funding to our community must be completed by December 10, 2020, or the funds will be returned to the county. We recognize the struggle of so many in the Coral Springs community and encourage those who are eligible to apply.”
To apply for the assistance, print (single-sided) the application available on the city’s website: www.coralsprings.org/rentals.
If you are unable to print, the application will be made available at City Hall from Oct. 26-30.
