The Idaho Housing and Finance Association still has millions left for rent and utility assistance to Idahoans looking to avoid eviction.
So far, the agency has paid only $4.3 million of the $15 million awarded by Governor Brad Little and the Coronavirus Financial Advisory Committee for rental assistance statewide. Applications for the funding opened June 9.
“With other forms of relief running out, we want Idahoans to know that help is still available” Brady Ellis, vice president of housing support programs at IHFA, said in an email. “It’s a simple process to apply and we encourage COVID-impacted renters to reach out for current and future assistance even if they have already received other assistance in the past.”

So far, 70% of the assistance has been out to residents of the Treasure Valley. Boise alone made up 46% of the payments with the rest of the Treasure Valley making up the rest. Eight percent was paid out in North Idaho and another 8% in the Idaho Falls region.
To be eligible, residents must:
- Be Idaho residents
- Legally reside in the United States
- Owe past due rent and utilities or be unable to pay upcoming rent and utilities due to a COVID-19 related circumstance
- Not receive a federal housing subsidy
Applicants must also make less than 80% of the area median income. This is less than $41,900 for a single adult in Ada County and $59,850 for a family of four. Income limits differ depending on the area of the state and number of residents in the household.
Residents who lost their housing due to a COVID-19 circumstance who are currently living with another household are eligible for assistance. Those who are staying in a shelter or in a car are not eligible.
Amounts of payments differ, depending on the households needs. Assistance is only available for three months at a time and up to six months total. Application review and processing takes between three and seven days.
