Time Running Out for COVID-19 Rental Assistance - The Hudson Independent

By Alexander Roberts–

It’s not too late to apply for rental assistance for families and individuals whose incomes have been affected by COVID-19.  The deadline was extended an extra week until August 6th for access to the $100 million authorized by the New York State Legislature.  Applications are available at the website of New York State Homes and Community Renewal (HCR), hcr.ny.gov/RRP . Applicants may also call 1-833-499-0318.

This is New York State funding totally separate from the federal assistance under the CARES Act. It is also unrelated to the private rental assistance fund managed by the Housing Action Council in Tarrytown (see: https://ift.tt/3fqBS4i to State Housing Commissioner RuthAnne Visnauskas, “This program is intended to prioritize households across the State with the greatest economic and social need, accounting for income, rent burden, percent of income lost and risk of homelessness. HCR will not make any determinations on a first come, first- served basis.”

Local officials, including Westchester County Legislator MaryJane Shimsky, have welcomed the assistance and urged those in need to apply.
