CORAL SPRINGS, FL – If you have been hit hard financially by the Covid-19 crisis, Coral Springs has money available to potentially help you pay for housing costs.
The city announced Friday that it will open up -- starting Aug. 24 -- a process to apply for $502,500 in assistance made available through Florida’s Coronavirus Relief Funds.
The assistance will be made available to income-eligible Coral Springs residents on a first-come, first-serve basis, city officials said in a news release.
The money will be used for rental and mortgage assistance for those who have experienced a loss of income, reduction in hours, or unemployment as a direct result of the economic meltdown related to the coronavirus, officials said.
Assistance will only be provided for mortgages and rent due between April to December.
For those who qualify, the money will be paid directly to their mortgage company or landlords, officials said.
“The unforeseen challenges this pandemic has caused, including the financial burden on residents, is something city staff has worked on solutions to address,” Coral Springs City Manager Frank Babinec said in the news release. “Allocating more than $500,000 in Coronavirus Relief Funds for this program is one way we are trying to alleviate the financial hardships families in our city have endured.”
