Riverside County is offering up to $5 million in assistance to nonprofit organizations significantly impacted by the coronavirus crisis.

The Inland Empire Community Foundation is accepting online grant applications from nonprofits in need of support. Through July 31, 2020, nonprofits that have experienced a loss of funding and provide services in Riverside County can apply for a grant ranging between $2,500 and $10,000.

On June 9, the Riverside County Board of Supervisors moved to provide up to $5 million in additional financial support to the nonprofit community, which is increasingly being stretched by higher demands for service and a reduction in revenue. Loss of funding due to canceled or postponed fundraising events in addition to forced staff changes have increased the burden on many nonprofits, according to IECF.

“The nonprofit community that provides direct services fills gaps that the county and other government agencies cannot meet,” said Vice Chair Karen Spiegel, Second District Supervisor. “These agencies are some of the highest in-demand agencies in the county, and they need financial support to get through this pandemic, just like our businesses.”

There are currently 7,511 nonprofits registered in Riverside County and 5,331 nonprofits who recently filed tax returns. They employ more than 69,000 employees in the Inland Empire.

IECF was awarded these funds in partnership with the Riverside County Homeless Solutions and Workforce Department and the Inland Empire Funder’s Alliance. It will be administering grants through its Riverside County Nonprofit Assistance Fund.

Organizations with a 501(c)3 or 501(c)6 status are encouraged to apply. Eligible organizations must have less than 50 employees, have received less than $100,000 in assistance from the Paycheck Protection Program or the SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan, have budgets of less than $750,000 and be located in Riverside County.

IECF will collaborate with members of the Funders Alliance to create small teams of reviewers for each County Supervisor District, along with one nonprofit that is ineligible to submit. These teams will help distribute information and review for eligibility. Applications will be reviewed from August 3- August 25 and those receiving grants will be notified August 27.

In addition to the online application, applying nonprofits will also be required to submit a Safe Reopening Plan per the Riverside County Guidelines to receive funds.

For help with applying, IECF is offering online information sessions. The final session will be at 5 p.m. July 16. Nonprofits who are unable to attend can view the recorded session on the IECF website.

“The Inland Empire Community Foundation is pleased to partner with the Riverside County Board of Supervisors to deploy these funds, and we are grateful that our Supervisors recognize the economic contribution of our sector in these times,” IECF President and CEO Michelle Decker said.
