Vermont governor seeking disaster assistance after flooding - Associated Press

MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) — Vermont Gov. Phil Scott asked the federal government Tuesday to help Bennington and Windham counties recover from summer flooding.

Scott said communities in the two southern Vermont counties suffered an estimated $4 million in damage from flooding that occurred on July 29 and 30.

Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, the state and local communities assessed the damage and determined it met the minimum damage threshold needed to apply for the assistance.

If the federal disaster status is granted, communities would be eligible to receive 75% reimbursement for storm response and recovery. Those costs include repairs to public roads, bridges, and other infrastructure that was damaged during the storm.

“Many communities impacted by these storms were left with repair costs that far exceed their annual road maintenance budgets,” Scott said in a statement. “This is an area of our state that has felt the impacts of storms of all sizes over the past year, and without federal assistance, they will be left with another bill that will impact its residents for some time.”
