As expected following Saturday’s marathon win in Milwaukee, the Giants added reinforcements to their bullpen before the series finale Sunday afternoon.

Right-hander John Brebbia joined the club from Triple-A Sacramento and is likely to be one of manager Gabe Kapler’s first options out of the bullpen after the Giants used eight relievers in an 11-inning win over the Brewers. Kapler said before Sunday’s game that Brebbia could work multiple innings, if necessary.

Aaron Sanchez, who lasted two innings Saturday while making his first start since May 4, was designated for assignment.

Manager Gabe Kapler said afterward that the win Saturday was “essentially a bullpen game.” He described the bullpen as “taxed” following the 9-6 victory.

“That’s part of being in a long season,” Kapler said. “It’s nice that we have an offday coming up (Monday). The bullpen picked us up and came up big for the group. Now we have to come up big for the bullpen.”

Starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was also reinstated from the paternity list Sunday, with his spot in the rotation approaching on Tuesday. His wife, Taylor, gave birth to the couple’s second child on Friday.

The Giants optioned utility man Thairo Estrada to Triple-A Sacramento to clear room on the 26-man roster.

Brebbia has made 14 appearances for the Giants this season but was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on July 29. In 15 major-league innings this season, Brebbia has a 6.60 ERA. He pitched once since being sent down, a scoreless inning on Friday.

He is the second reinforcement the Giants have added to their bullpen in this series, after recalling Zack Littel in anticipation of Saturday’s bullpen-heavy affair. San Francisco used six relievers in a 10-inning win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday, then four more on Friday before calling upon eight arms Saturday.

On the mound Sunday, right-hander Johnny Cueto has completed six innings of work once in six starts since the beginning of July.
