In a welcome change of pace, social media came together for a good cause over the past week: helping three-time Olympic gold-medalist Aly Raisman find her dog.
While most of us were celebrating the July Fourth holiday with cookouts and good vibes, the legendary gymnast was experiencing a pet owner's worst nightmare as she frantically searched for her lost companion.
According to a tweet by Raisman, her dog, Mylo, ran away as fireworks were going off in the Seaport District of Boston on July 3.
To my followers in the seaport/Boston area...my dog Mylo was terrified of fireworks and ran off. He has a tag on and a leash. Please let me know if you see him. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/ZJCCUkSWGw

The next day, Raisman posted a flyer on social media and encouraged others to spread the word to help her reunite with her pup.
If anyone has time to put up fliers in the Boston area... I will be forever grateful. pic.twitter.com/ani3pZmvQx

Before we go any further, it feels important for me to share a disclaimer that this story is one with a happy ending -- as I know dog lovers are probably already sufficiently stressed out by what they've read above.
Now that we've all collectively exhaled, here's how Raisman's agonizing search continued through the week:
Mylo is still missing. Please please please reach out with exact location if you see or hear anything Thank you.

I am offering a reward for Mylo's safe return. Please keep your eyes open, he could be trapped or hiding. I still ask that if he is running please do not chase him, we don't want to push him further away or put him in danger. Please contact lynnraisman@gmail.com if you see Mylo.

On the afternoon of July 7, the 27-year-old shared that there had been four possible sightings in Southie but said she still hadn't found Mylo.
Update on Mylo: four possible sightings in southie recently. (Not confirmed because no photos or videos)
Appreciate your kindness & support. I've seen so many people helping me look for Mylo & I can't even begin to say how thankful I am.

That night, a distraught Raisman made it clear her search continued.
I hope so. I'm devastated. Mylo is my everything. I feel like a piece of me is missing. https://t.co/Hl2keFtYTq

A couple more people to thank... Nayda left shortly after I got there so that's why she isn't in the picture! I also believe there was a man who stayed to make sure Mylo was ok but once he heard I was on my way he left. THANK YOU to both of them 🤍 https://t.co/KlLrU6HFNz

Apparently the heroes who reunited Mylo and the gymnast had no idea a dog was missing when they sprang into action.
The people who helped Mylo didn't know each other & had no idea a dog was missing! They just called the number on his tag :) https://t.co/s0YuhyrHHI

But the positive impact of social media and the Boston community pulling together during Raisman's search cannot be overstated.
and others for their tireless help and support. The outreach from the members of the community (both near and far) who helped search and put up flyers, as well as those who offered emotional support and well wishes are so appreciated. The Boston community is incredible &

Having them with me, so I didn't have to be alone meant so much. I am so thankful & grateful for the positive ending to a difficult journey. This past week was one of toughest weeks of my life & I wouldn't wish it on the worst person in the world.
