New York State is offering an additional $15 million to residents who are having a hard time paying their overdue heating bills.

Families are normally only eligible for one round of assistance each winter through the Home Energy Assistance Program and an emergency benefit if there’s an energy crisis.

Now, they can receive an extra round of money if they’re at risk of running out of propane or having their utilities shut off.

Assistance is available to more people than you might think. A family of four with a household income of $60,000 is still eligible. 

Contact your county’s Department of Social Services for more information. Apply by April 30th.
