Scott announced two programs to help tenants and landlords in Vermont facing difficulties. It's part of $85 million in federal coronavirus relief funds. Starting Monday, $25 million in rental assistance for both tenants and landlords through the Rental Housing Stabilization Program. The money can be used for a variety of reasons including past due rent, security deposits, and first/last months rent. Starting next week, tenants and landlords can apply for help through the Vermont State Housing Authority. Applications are on a first-come-first-served basis.

The other program provides $5 million in mortgage assistance. It will pay up to three months of mortgage payments for households who faced economic hardship during the pandemic. There is an income requirement and they must have missed at least two months of payments since March. It's not for second-homeowners. Applications will be open through the end of August and will also be first-come-first-served. Information and application materials are available through the Vermont Housing Finance Agency. A Mortgage Assistance Program information hotline is open 9 am – 4 pm, Monday through Friday, at 1-800-889-2047.

Governor Scott is calling on pharmacies to help boost testing capacity. Vermont already ranks as one of the top states for testing, but Scott says the state can always use more help. Leading off that effort, Kinney Drugs in Newport has started to offer testing on Mondays as part of a pilot project. Walgreens in Essex will also be doing testing. Scott called on other pharmacies to help out if they can.

Vermont health officials reported 21 new cases over the past two days, most of them in Chittenden County. That brings the statewide total to 1,277 as of Friday. The number of deaths has stayed at 56 for several weeks.
