Housing and utility assistance applications available - DeKalb Daily Chronicle

Family Service Agency’s Community Action Program has received funding through Kishwaukee United Way and the Community Service Block Grant through the CARES Act to supplement emergency food programs and to respond to COVID-19’s housing impact on DeKalb County.

Majority of funds will be used to provide relief to homeowners and renters and provide utility assistance resulting from impacts of COVID-19 (e.g. loss of income, job loss, reduction in hours, etc.). Limited funds are also designated to assist individuals with temporary housing needs related to COVID-19. FSA will partner with other local agencies to provide temporary housing assistance to their clients as needed for situations of homelessness and/or domestic violence.

To be considered for assistance, individuals and families will need to contact FSA to complete an intake application, provide necessary documentation required to access the specific program and assistance. Financial assistance payments will be made directly to the mortgage company, landlord, utility provider or other on behalf of the resident. Clients must financially qualify and complete a community needs assessment. For more information on qualifications, contact a family support specialist at 815-758-8616.

CAP strives to help low-income families achieve and maintain their highest level of self-sufficiency by providing a variety of programs. Two of CAP’s primary purposes are to provide essential anti-poverty programs, and to advocate for the needs of the poor in their communities.
