Police told man peered into Montclair home, shouted 'Help! Let me in!' - Montclair Local

Montclair police are looking into a report of a person peering through a home’s windows, yelling for help.

On Aug. 3, a resident reported his juvenile daughter and her friend saw a man peering through a first-floor window to the resident’s Inwood Avenue home, police said. The daughter had said the male looked “distressed” while looking in, police said.

Next, the man walked over to the side door and yelled “Help! Let me in!” before running off, police said they were told.

The man was described as short, middle-aged with a slim build, with long light-colored hair and a yellow shirt, police said.

Montclair police have reported the following additional activity in their weekly police blotter:

Thefts

Tuesday, Aug. 3 —  Someone reported that his 2021 Honda Civic was stolen from in front of Popeye’s at Lackawanna Plaza. He reported the vehicle was left running as he ran inside to retrieve a DoorDash order.

Thursday, Aug. 5 — A resident reported that his 2020 Audi A7 was stolen from the driveway during the overnight hours on Montclair Avenue.

Saturday, Aug. 7 — A person said his 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee was stolen from his driveway overnight on Overlook Road. He believes he may have mistakenly left a spare set of keys inside the vehicle.

Saturday, Aug. 7 — A resident reported an unknown person stole his Schwinn mountain bike from his front porch on Midland Avenue. The bike was locked to a railing at the time. Surveillance footage showed a tall male with a burgundy shirt, black short pants with a white stripe on the side and orange sneakers walk up to the front door of the residence and ring the doorbell. The person immediately ran down and stole the bicycle. It was valued at approximately $250.

Sunday, Aug. 8 — A person reported that a 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander was stolen from his driveway overnight on Porter Place. He believes he mistakenly left the keys inside of the car.

Sunday, Aug. 8 — A resident reported that his Cannondale CAAD 10 bicycle was stolen from his rear porch on Orange Road. The bicycle was valued at $750.

Monday, Aug. 9 —  A person reported she parked her vehicle in the Upper Montclair Parking Plaza on Valley Road and had $10,000 in a black case that she was intending to deposit at Chase Bank. When she arrived at the bank, she realized she did not have the case with her. She returned to her vehicle and discovered the case was on the ground and the money was missing.

Monday, Aug. 9 —  A person reported that his white Super 73 electric bike with a black seat and with fat tires was stolen from outside of a business Bellevue Avenue. The bicycle is valued at $1,800.

DWI

Tuesday, Aug. 3 —  A 41-year-old Glen Ridge resident was charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident on Orange Road.

Other arrests

Thursday, Aug. 5 —  A 27-year-old Montclair resident was arrested on Maple Avenue on an outstanding warrant out of Bloomfield.

Saturday, Aug. 7 —  A 31-year-old Montclair resident was arrested on Bloomfield Avenue on an open warrant out of Burlington County. He was additionally charged with resisting arrest.

Saturday, Aug. 7 —  A 56-year-old Montclair resident was charged with obstruction of justice on Bloomfield Avenue
