ORANGE, Ohio
Miscellaneous; attempted identity theft: Lander Road
A resident, 79, and her son reported Nov. 3 that someone had tried to file for Pandemic Unemployment Assistance through the state using her personal information.
And as she learned in a letter from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, that fraudulent attempt was denied by the state. She was also provided with county and state services to assist with fraud protections.
Fraud: Lander Road
It was unclear if it was related to COVID-19 as well, but a resident, 51, reported Nov. 5 that her employer, Cleveland Clinic, notified her that someone was apparently using her personal information to obtain unemployment benefits while she was out of the country.
With a planned return date still undetermined, she was given information on identity theft and advised by police to run a credit report.
Followup investigation, mutual aid given: Chagrin Boulevard
A patrol officer stopping at the Shell True North Station was approached the evening of Nov. 6 by a Cleveland resident, 37, who reported being in a quarrel with a Cleveland woman, 35, at the Village Square parking lot in Woodmere, who became incensed and retrieved a knife.
She then slashed a tire on their car and attempted to stab the owner as well, before fleeing on foot through the gas station and north on Orange Place Drive. The suspect was later found at the Extended Stay North parking lot and turned over to Woodmere police, along with the suspected knife, recovered about an hour later in the Shell True North lot by an Orange police officer.
Damage to private property: Brainard Road
A resident, 51, reported Nov. 4 that Cuyahoga County-based cement contractors were parking in his for-sale vacant lot while working on a driveway next door.
The owner of the cement company had already offered to repair the damage to the grass lot once the project was completed and the property owner just wanted it to be documented. Police noted there were trucks parked on his lot near the village recreational trail, leaving rut damage in several spots on the private property.
Departmental information: Jackson Drive
A resident, 57, reported to police on Nov. 3 that she had some information she thought could result in an aggravated menacing complaint against a woman, 63, with no further details available.
