Watch Now: MLBPA Makes 70-Game Proposal To MLB To Restart Season (4:52)

The Los Angeles Angels have been one of the league's most aggressive teams in furloughing employees over the past month, cutting scouts and player development types, both domestically and internationally. (The Angels would have furloughed their crosscheckers, too, had the league not relaxed in-person scouting capabilities.) While the organization is in full cost-cutting mode during the pandemic, one member of the club has stepped up to the plate to help those in need.

According to Maria Torres of the Los Angeles Times, first baseman Albert Pujols has agreed to pay $180,000 to the Dominican Republic-based staff impacted by the furloughs. Torres estimated that about 90 percent of the Angels' staff at their academy in Boca Chica was affected by the cuts, and that Pujols' donation will pay for roughly five months' worth of salary.

Here's more information about those cuts, and about the measures the organization has taken to help those same employees, via Torres' report:

There is no timeline in place for the resumption of minor league operations, which means it is impossible to know at what point the Angels will feel comfortable bringing employees back from furlough. They set up a $1-million employee assistance fund in the spring to help their affected employees bridge the gap.

Pujols, who is from the Dominican Republic, is in the penultimate season of the 10-year, $240-million contract he signed with the Angels prior to the 2012 season. Pujols' contract is tied for the eighth-richest deal in the sport's history. Comparatively, Angels owner Arte Moreno is estimated by Forbes to have a net worth of $3.3 billion, or more than 13 Pujols contracts.

During Pujols' career, he's hit 300/.379/.549 (147 OPS+) with 656 home runs and 100.8 Wins Above Replacement, according to Baseball Reference's calculations.
