Kandiyohi Soil and Water Conservation District offers assistance with rain gardens - West Central Tribune

WILLMAR — The Kandiyohi Soil and Water Conservation District offers technical assistance for establishing rain gardens.

According to a news release, these shallow, constructed depressions that are planted with native grasses and forbs are strategically placed to capture runoff from hard surfaces such as driveways, parking lots or sidewalks.

These gardens fill with water after storms and filter it through the vegetation and soil to extract the nutrients and sediment before reaching the ground water.

Other advantages of rain gardens are that they are naturally beautiful and easy to complete.
